The Honest Answer
Marble is the most beautiful countertop material available — and the most high-maintenance. It etches, it stains, it scratches. Homeowners who love it say they don't care. Homeowners who choose it thinking it's like granite often regret it. We'll make sure you go in with eyes open.

We love marble. We fabricate it, we install it, and we have a full selection at our showrooms. But we also believe in being straight with people — and the truth about marble is that it requires a different mindset than granite or quartz.

If you understand the trade-offs and choose marble anyway, you'll have the most stunning countertop in any kitchen. The veining, the depth, the warmth — nothing else comes close. Our job is to make sure you know what you're choosing.

Unmatched beautyThe veining, depth, and warmth of marble is impossible to replicate in any engineered surface.

Marble etches, stains, and scratches — here's what that really means

Etching: Acidic substances (lemon juice, wine, vinegar, coffee) leave dull marks on marble's surface. These aren't stains — they're chemical reactions with the stone. They can be honed out but not simply wiped away. If you cook with acidic foods regularly and can't tolerate any marks, marble may frustrate you.

Staining: Marble is porous and will absorb oils, wine, and other liquids if not sealed and wiped promptly. Sealing helps significantly but doesn't make it stain-proof.

Scratching: Marble is softer than granite or quartzite. Knives and hard objects can scratch the surface. Many homeowners consider this part of the character. Others don't.

Our recommendation: marble is excellent for lower-traffic areas, statement islands, baking counters, and bathrooms. For a high-use kitchen perimeter where you cook actively every day, consider granite or quartzite instead — and use marble where it'll shine.

Marble types we carry

We carry the full range of marble — if it exists, we can get it. Below are some of the most popular varieties, but this is not an exhaustive list. If you have something specific in mind that you've seen online, in a showroom, or in a design magazine, ask us. We can source virtually any marble variety.

  • Carrara — the most classic white marble with soft gray veining. The most available and typically the most accessible. Soft, elegant, timeless.
  • Calacatta — whiter background with bolder, more dramatic veining than Carrara. The statement marble. Multiple varieties available depending on the movement and contrast you want.
  • Statuario — bright white with thick, dramatic gray veins. Among the most striking marble available.
  • Nero Marquina — black marble with white veining. A dramatic, sophisticated choice for islands and feature applications.
  • Calacatta Gold, Arabescato, Emperador, Thassos, and more — these are just a few of the many varieties we can source. If you have a name, bring it to us. If you have a photo, show us. We'll find it.

Marble selection must happen in person — the variation between slabs is significant and photos never tell the full story. We'll walk you through our warehouse and, if needed, take you to our local slab importers to find exactly what you're looking for.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on how you cook and how you feel about patina. Marble is used in kitchens all over the world — professional bakers especially love it for its cool surface. But it does etch and stain more readily than granite or quartz. If you're a heavy daily cook with acidic ingredients, granite or quartzite may serve you better. If you're drawn to marble's beauty and can accept the trade-offs, it can be stunning in a kitchen.
Quartzite often looks like marble but is much harder and more durable. It doesn't etch like marble does. Some quartzite varieties (like Taj Mahal or White Macaubas) have marble-like veining with significantly better performance. If you love the marble look but worry about maintenance, quartzite is worth a serious look.
Yes — more frequently than granite. We seal marble at installation. Resealing every 6–12 months is recommended for kitchen surfaces, especially lighter marble. Sealing reduces staining but doesn't prevent etching — etching is a chemical reaction, not a penetration issue.
Yes — a professional can hone or polish the surface to remove etch marks. This is a maintenance cost to factor in. Some homeowners choose a honed (matte) finish rather than polished, which makes etch marks less visible since the surface is already matte.
Excellent choice for bathrooms. Much lower acid exposure than kitchens, and the look is exceptional. Marble vanity tops, shower surrounds, and floors are classic applications where the material performs beautifully with far fewer trade-offs than in an active kitchen.
